There might be a better way to pose the question regarding ‘If you have Bodhichitta you accomplish what you wish’
One idea is: When you wish for the benefit of all beings, you accomplish the aspiration of Bodhichitta. True/lFalse
As long as we recognize we are on the bodhicitta aspiration path and that we are not yet realized
Bodhicitta is our nature, and we aspire to embody it
(has no false response)
This comes across as a trick question, which is not good for tests. The answer False is correct, because of the usual overloading of the English word ‘wish’. The bodhicitta is not a vending machine for the fulfilment of wishes in that English sense. So 100% False is correct.
Then again, there is only one wish in the non-dual realisation of bodhicitta. And that is the enlightenment of all sentient beings. That one wish includes all others, and its granting includes the granting of all other wishes, because the meaning of wish shifts and the meaning of granting (safety, health, happiness, peace, etc) shifts in this non-dual context of interpretation. So 100% True is correct too.
So there is the logical (dualistic) paradox: The answer cannot be both true and false at the same time. And there is the inconsistency in the giving of credits for this question, because the web-quiz setup is for a “Either-Or” click on this quiz.
To make the paradox clearer, to get students to think about this problem philosophically and then ultimately stop going about this dualistically, I would put two more multiple-choice otions and allow multiple exits: ( ) Both are true, ( ) None is true. Now there will be more possibilities of getting a credit for this quiz, than just the one before. In fact if I want to push this in one of the ‘caution: secrets and deception!’ ways of the Lying Mahadisiddha, I might set this up such that every single answer is right and also clicking Next without clicking any answer! This will surely baffle the student, as they get a credit no matter what. I expect them to be baffled and stop thinking at least for a few microseconds.
on the question “Why are the four immeasurables – love, compassion, joy, equanimity – immeasurable?” there could be clearer options. I was expecting elements like ‘beyond limit, vast, boundless’ etc.
